Sen. Craig Hickman reappointed to the Maine Climate Council’s Community Resilience Planning, Public Health and Emergency Management Working Group
AUGUSTA — Senator Craig Hickman, D-Winthrop, is pleased to announce his reappointment to the Maine Climate Council’s Working Group on Community Resilience Planning, Public Health and Emergency Management.
“As our district has seen up close in recent years, preparing our state and its farms, homes and businesses for the impacts of severe weather is urgently needed to keep our communities thriving,” said Sen. Hickman. “I am excited to continue to bring my perspective as a farmer, legislator and rural Mainer to this Working Group. I look forward to collaborating with my fellow Working Group members to keep Maine resilient, healthy and ready for emergencies in the face of our changing climate.”
The Community Resilience Planning, Public Health and Emergency Management Working Group Working Group evaluates and recommends short- and long-term strategies for building resilience against climate change, as well as short- and long-term mitigation strategies to reduce gross and net annual greenhouse gas emissions.
The Community Resilience Planning, Public Health and Emergency Management Working Group Working Group is one of six working groups under the Maine Climate Council, which was established in 2019 by Governor Janet Mills to address the impacts of climate change, build resiliency against those impacts and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The Council is made up of scientists, industry leaders and bipartisan local and state officials.
The Council releases an updated four-year plan for responding to climate change every four years. In November 2024, the Maine Climate Council released its second plan titled “Maine Won’t Wait.”
Senator Hickman represents District 14, which includes Chelsea, Farmingdale, Gardiner, Hallowell, Manchester, Monmouth, Pittston, Randolph, Readfield, Wayne, West Gardiner and Winthrop in Kennebec County.
