Sen. Craig Hickman shares 2025 MDOT work plan for state bridge and road projects

AUGUSTA – Sen. Craig Hickman of Winthrop is pleased to announce the details of Maine’s three-year transportation infrastructure work plan and what it means for Senate District 14. The plan is released annually with an outline of the Maine Department of Transportation’s strategy for road, bridge and other transportation upgrades and maintenance projects.

According to the Maine DOT, the three-year work plan makes a historic $4.8 billion investment in construction and maintenance of transportation infrastructure across the state. It includes 2,716 individual work items for the calendar years 2025, 2026 and 2027.

In 2025, the Maine DOT will undertake numerous projects to improve transportation in Senate District 14, such as major efforts to improve the structural integrity of our bridges and numerous projects to upgrade drainage infrastructure.

“The projects detailed by the Department of Transportation are undoubtedly needed, and I’m sure they will have a positive impact on our community,” said Sen. Hickman. “These infrastructure projects are part of our ongoing commitment to build resilient communities and protect our way of life.” 

The following breakdown is the planned capital and maintenance work by MDOT for communities in Senate District 14 in 2025:

Bicycle/Bus/Pedestrian

  • Gardiner: Construct on-road sidewalks and trails along Water Street beginning at Route 201 and extending southeast 0.16 of a mile, then beginning at Maine Avenue and extending south 0.05 of a mile.
  • Readfield: Improve bicycle and pedestrian trails beginning at Maine Street and extending north 0.33 of a mile to connect the town’s recreational complex.

Bridge and Structural Maintenance

  • Gardiner: Paint and repair a drain on Winter Street Bridge, which carries Winter Street over the Cobbosseecontee Stream in Gardiner, located 160 feet northwest of the intersection of Route 9.
  • Manchester: Paint rail on Outlet Bridge which carries Pond Road over Cobbosseecontee Stream in Manchester, located 160 feet south of Collins Road.
  • Monmouth: Repair post and rail and install an overlay on Annabessacook Bridge which carries Highland Terrace over Wilson Stream in Monmouth, located 160 feet southwest of the intersection of North Main Street.
  • Monmouth: Replace Waggon Bridge on Waugan Road over Wilson Stream, located 0.13 of a mile south of Hansons Wood Road.
  • Monmouth: Replace Bailey Flat Bridge on Cobbossee Road over Mud Mills Stream, located 0.73 of a mile north of Gilman Road.
  • Pittston: Replace Nehumkeag Bridge on Route 27 over Nehumkeag Brook, located 0.10 of a mile north of Forest Lane.

Drainage Maintenance

  • Gardiner: Replace a large culvert on Route 24, located 0.12 of a mile southwest of Costello Road.
  • Hallowell: Conduct a scoping project to develop the information needed to adapt the stormwater infrastructure. The scope consists of GIS mapping of stormwater infrastructure, structure condition, flow paths, flow volumes, watershed size and assessment of modifications to streets.
  • Manchester, Readfield [and Belgrade]: Ditch and replace culverts on Route 135 in Readfield, Manchester and Belgrade, beginning at the intersection of Route 17 in Readfield and extending 8.97 miles northeast to the intersection of Route 27 in Belgrade.
  • Monmouth: Ditch and replace culverts on Route 132 in Monmouth, beginning at the Wales-Monmouth town line and extending 5.12 miles north to the intersection of Route 11 in Monmouth.
  • Pittston: Ditch and replace culverts on Route 194 in Pittston, beginning at the intersection of Wiscasset Road and extending 6.25 miles southeast to the Pittston-Whitefield town line.
  • Randolph: Perform drainage improvements on Route 27 beginning at the Pittston town line and extending north 0.88 of a mile to the Gardiner town line.

Highway Construction/Rehabilitation and Safety Improvements

  • Gardiner: Perform slope stabilization and protection along Route 24 beginning 1.14 miles north of Warren Avenue and extending north 0.40 of a mile.
  • Gardiner, Hallowell, Readfield [and Richmond]: Perform ADA improvements to rural highways.
  • Randolph: Improve the intersection of Route 27 and Route 226.

Highway Paving

  • Farmingdale, Hallowell, [Litchfield] and West Gardiner: Pave Hallowell-Litchfield Road beginning at Route 197 and extending north 15.22 miles to Winthrop Street.
  • Monmouth and Winthrop [and Greene, Leeds, Lewiston]: Resurface Route 202 beginning 0.05 of a mile north of Northwood Road and extending north 16.95 miles.
  • Wayne and Winthrop: Resurface Route 133 beginning 0.09 of a mile northwest of Route 41 and extending northwest 4.71 miles.
  • Winthrop: Resurface Main Street beginning 0.01 of a mile west of Green Street and extending east 0.63 of a mile.
