Sen. Daughtry appointed chair of Education and Cultural Affairs Committee
AUGUSTA — Sen. Matthea Daughtry, D-Brunswick, has been appointed to serve as Senate chair of the Joint Standing Committee on Education and Cultural Affairs for the 130th Maine Legislature. The Education and Cultural Affairs Committee is focused on the Department of Education, the University of Maine System and the Maine Community College System, as well as other cultural affairs and education issues.

“I’m honored to be chosen to chair the Education and Cultural Affairs Committee,” said Sen. Daughtry. “I look forward to continuing my work on strengthening early childhood education, making higher education more affordable, and supporting our students, teachers and families as they learn and educate during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Sen. Daughtry will also serve on the Taxation Committee, which is responsible for the Bureau of Revenue Services and State Property Tax Review Board, taxpayer relief programs, and state and local taxes.
Lawmakers are assigned to committees by the presiding officers based on their interests, experience and professional background. Joint standing committees are composed of three senators and ten representatives. The Legislature will reconvene in the new year.
