AUGUSTA — On Tuesday, Sen. Mattie Daughtry, D-Brunswick, welcomed Rev. Katie Holicky of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Brunswick to the Senate Chamber. Rev. Holicky gave the Opening Prayer.

“Coming back from the long holiday weekend, I was grateful for Rev. Holicky’s prayer,” said Sen. Daughtry. “Her words moved and inspired me. It was a beautiful reflection on the Feast of Frederick Douglass, which is very appropriate and timely as we celebrate Black History Month.”

On session days, faith leaders deliver a brief inspirational message to guide lawmakers through their deliberations for the day. Out of respect for the diversity in the Senate Chamber, the Senate Secretary’s Office asks that these invocations are non-secular and non-political.
