AUGUSTA – On Thursday, March 7, Sen. Jill Duson, D-Portland, welcomed TRIO-Upward Bound to the Maine State House. TRIO-Upward Bound is celebrating its 60th anniversary.

“I’m proud to be an early graduate of the TRIO-Upward Bound program,” said Sen. Duson. “I’m grateful for the early tutoring program that morphed into the on-campus program that helped me see the possibility of success. Upward Bound opened doors for me and helped me figure out how to make choices and take advantage of the opportunities in front of me. I am proud of the work TRIO-Upward Bound programs continue to do with promising students and helping them achieve their highest potential. I appreciate the opportunity to share my story.”

TRIO-Upward Bound is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. TRIO-Upward Bound programs include: Educational Opportunity Centers, Veterans Upward Bound, McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program and GEAR UP Maine (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs). TRIO works to provide critical support and resources to students as they prepare for and enroll in college despite many challenges associated with poverty, being the first in the family to attend college, or navigating college with a disability.
