“I’m honored to have earned the support of the people of Senate District 27 for another term in the Maine Senate,” said Sen. Duson. “I’m ready to get to work alongside my colleagues, delivering meaningful results and lifting up my constituent’s voices.”

First elected to Portland City Council in 2001, including two terms as Mayor, Sen. Duson has been a steadfast leader in Portland and statewide. A child of the Civil Rights movement, Sen. Duson was inspired by the activism of her mother and empowered local parents who partnered with allies and organizers to desegregate schools in her hometown. In her first term, she served as a member of the Appropriations and Financial Affairs Committee and the Government Oversight Committee.

The swearing-in ceremony was held in the Senate Chamber, and was attended by family and friends of the Senators, as well as the general public. A livestream of the event can be viewed online at http://legislature.maine.gov/senate/.

Of the 35 total members of the Maine Senate, there are 20 Democrats and 15 Republicans. Fifteen are women, and 20 are men. There are 7 new members of the Senate, three of which most recently served in the House of Representatives. Twenty-eight members are incumbents.
