Sen. Johnson Welcomes Local Clergy Member to the Maine Senate
Pastor Wally Staples of the Wiscasset Church of the Nazarene recently delivered the Morning Prayer to members of the Maine Senate during their legislative session. He was the guest of Sen. Chris Johnson of Somerville. Pastor Staples is also the Chaplain for the Wiscasset Police Department and Edgecomb Fire Department.
During the visit, Sen. Johnson and Pastor Staples discussed their mutual passion and work in addressing food insecurities in the community.
Clergy have played an essential role in the legislative process by offering blessings and inspiration to both the House and the Senate, which has been a customary practice since the original convention of the Maine Legislature in 1820.
