Sen. Libby earns perfect record for conservation votes in 2016
Sen. Libby, D-Lewiston, received a perfect score for his votes to protect Maine’s environment, support clean energy and defend state conservation programs, according to a legislative scorecard compiled by Maine Conservation Voters.
“So many of our industries depend on Maine’s natural resources,” said Sen. Libby. “I’m proud my voting record shows a commitment to responsible stewardship now so we can benefit from and enjoy Maine’s natural resources and beauty for generations to come.”
Sen. Libby received a 100 percent score for key votes taken during the 2016 legislative session, maintaining his 100 percent record over his legislative career. Those include votes to defend Land for Maine’s Future against Gov. Paul LePage, whose attacks against the program threatened conservation projects around the state. Sen. Libby also voted to support new jobs and expand the state’s renewable energy portfolio by growing Maine’s solar power industry, and voted to defeat a bill that would threaten clean water.
Lastly, Sen. Libby voted against a bill that sought to limit the federal government’s ability to conserve land deemed to have high environmental, cultural or scientific value.
“Maine being ‘the way life should be’ is due in large part to our natural resources and I’ll keep fighting to protect and preserve them,” said Sen. Libby.
