Sen. Libby receives perfect score on education record
AUGUSTA — Sen. Nate Libby, D-Lewiston, earned a 100 percent rating from the Maine Education Association for his voting record on education issues. Sen. Libby is one of 16 state senators to earn a perfect score for their 2021 voting record from MEA.
“I am proud to build on my longstanding pro-education record here in the Maine Legislature,” said Sen. Libby. “We have to continue to make education a priority in our state. Part of that means looking after some of most vulnerable students and helping to even out the scales. Despite the challenges, Maine teachers and students can be proud of the work their legislators did this past session.”
This year, Sen. Libby championed efforts to fully fund education at 55 percent for the first time in the state’s history since it was mandated by voters in 2004. Sen. Libby also voted in favor of bills to ensure a good starting wage for school support staff including education technicians, school librarians, and career and technical education teachers. Making sure these hardworking professionals are paid a fair wage will help schools attract and retain quality workers.
Sen. Libby sponsored legislation to help young Mainer’s stay on track to graduate. This new law will help young students who have experienced education disruption to build a portfolio for high school graduation. Students who experience frequent disruptions to their schooling include those who are relocating schools, living in foster care, experiencing homelessness, children of migrant workers and more.
MEA represents 24,000 Maine teachers and advocates for policies and investments that ensure that educators’ voices, values and priorities are heard and respected both in the workplace and at the State House.
Sen. Libby remains committed to fighting for Maine students, teachers and school staff in the Legislature.
