Sen. Miramant encourages Knox County farmers to apply for drought relief
AUGUSTA — Sen. Dave Miramant, D-Camden, is reminding local farmers that Knox County qualifies for natural disaster assistance from the USDA due to this summer’s drought conditions.
“Our farmers work harder than anyone and have had a rough summer,” said Sen. Miramant. “I want to make them aware that there is help out there. It’s easy to apply and could make a big difference.”
Farmers in Knox County have eight months from October 5, or June of 2017, to submit applications for low-interest emergency loans. Those who qualify are encouraged to go to http://disaster.fsa.usda.gov or contact the local USDA field office at 46 Little River Drive in Belfast, telephone (207) 338-1964. Originally Androscoggin, Kennebec, Lincoln, Oxford and Sagadahoc counties were designated natural disaster areas. Cumberland, Franklin, Knox, Somerset, Waldo and York counties were also included because they share borders with the areas that sustained the most damage.
“All of us in Knox County take great pride in our farmers and want to see them succeed. I hope to connect as many as possible with the folks who can help them get back on their feet,” said Sen. Miramant.
