Sen. Nangle celebrates $80,000 Community Action Grant awarded to Windham

The funding will support a residential preparedness program focused on emergency readiness, energy efficiency and connecting residents with services

AUGUSTA — Sen. Tim Nangle, D-Windham, is pleased to announce that the Town of Windham has been awarded an $80,000 Community Action Grant from the Community Resilience Partnership. The partnership, administered by the Maine Office of Community Affairs, helps Maine communities lower energy costs, reduce emissions and prepare for climate effects such as severe storms, flooding, extreme temperatures and public health risks.

  • Windham — $80,000 — Windham Residential Preparedness Program. Developed with Age-Friendly Windham, the program is intended to connect residents with energy and emergency preparedness coaches and other services that can address immediate needs and strengthen long-term resilience.

“Preparation before an emergency can make all the difference,” said Sen. Nangle. “This grant will give Windham residents practical, trusted help to address immediate needs, find ways to make their homes more energy efficient and prepare for severe weather. I’m grateful to the town, Age-Friendly Windham and all the local partners who worked together to build a program around what residents actually need.”

Funding for this round of grants comes from state and federal sources, including:

  • State general funds authorized by the Maine Legislature; and
  • A five-year Climate Resilience Regional Challenge grant awarded to the State of Maine by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in 2024.

Windham’s grant is part of $4.7 million in Community Action Grant funding announced by Gov. Janet Mills on Sept. 2, 2026. The 63 awards will support projects in 72 communities across Maine. For a full list of grant awardees, click here.

Sen. Nangle is serving his second term in the Maine Senate, representing Senate District 26, which includes Casco, Frye Island, Raymond, Windham and part of Westbrook. He serves as Senate chair of the Legislature’s Transportation Committee and as a member of the Health and Human Services Committee.
