AUGUSTA — This summer, Sen. Nicole Grohoski, D-Ellsworth, was appointed by Senate President Mattie Daughtry, D-Brunswick to chair the newly created Real Estate Property Tax Relief Task Force, established under LD 1770.

“As the Senate Chair of the Legislature’s Taxation Committee, I am eager for the opportunity to take a closer look at property taxes over the coming months,” said Sen. Grohoski. “By taking a comprehensive, data-driven approach, we can ensure that reforms truly work for Maine people and businesses— from rural towns to cities. I’m proud of the bipartisan support this effort has received, including from fellow local Reps. Friedmann and White on the Taxation Committee, and I look forward to the work ahead.”

The task force is tasked with conducting a thorough, data-driven review of Maine’s real estate property tax structure. The task force will identify how the State can better support municipalities and provide meaningful, equitable relief to residents across Maine. The task force will be supported by a contractor and produce recommendations for statewide reforms.

Appointments are made up of members of the public, business and municipal leaders, tax assessors and tax law professionals. They have been made by the Governor, Senate President and Speaker of the House.
