Sen. Nicole Grohoski welcomes Mount Desert Island student to the Senate Chamber at the State House

AUGUSTA — Earlier this month, Sen. Nicole Grohoski, welcomed a local student to the Senate Chamber at the State House to serve as an Honorary Student Page.

“I was very happy to meet Brie in the Senate Chamber,” said Sen. Grohoski. “During the morning, Brie did a fantastic job. Despite all the emails and texts that we receive, my colleagues and I still rely on passing a lot of physical papers to each other via honorary pages like Brie. Afterwards, Brie and I discussed the issues that are important to her, as well as those of many other students. Whether it’s installing PFAS filtration systems for school drinking fountains or protecting the rights of queer students, young Mainers have voices that need to be heard.”

On session days, the Senate Secretary’s Office manages the Honorary Student Page Program in the Maine State Senate. Open to students in third through twelfth grade, Honorary Student Pages perform various duties such as delivering messages; distributing documents within the Senate Chamber; interacting with State Senators; and — most importantly — taking part in a real world, legislative learning experience.

To sign a student up to serve as an Honorary Student Page, contact Alex Ferguson at (207) 287-1540 or Alex.Ferguson@legislature.maine.gov.
