Sen. Pierce welcomes Falmouth, Cumberland guests to the Maine Senate
AUGUSTA — This week, Senate Majority Leader Teresa S. Pierce, D-Falmouth, welcomed multiple guests from across Senate District 25 to the Maine State Senate. In addition to meeting with Sen. Pierce, the guests served as Honorary Student Pages, Medical Provider of the Day and delivered the opening invocation ahead of a busy session day.
“As our legislative business ramps up, it’s been a true honor to welcome residents of our community to the Senate,” said Sen. Pierce. “Whether they are opening session with uplifting words of wisdom, assisting me and my colleagues in the chamber or providing their medical expertise to legislators and chamber guests, their commitment to service is commendable and is what makes our community strong.
On Tuesday, April 29th, James Meserve of Falmouth served as an Honorary Student Page during the Senate session. James was joined by his father, Dr. Jonathan Meserve, MD from Falmouth, who served as Medical Provider of the Day. Dr. Meserve cares for patients across Senate District 25 as an anesthesia provider at MaineHealth.

On session days, the Senate Secretary’s Office manages the Honorary Student Page Program in the Maine State Senate. Open to students in third grade through twelfth grade, Honorary Student Pages perform various duties such as delivering messages, distributing documents within the Senate Chamber, interacting with State Senators and taking part in a real-world legislative learning experience.
Also on session days, faith leaders are invited to deliver the Opening Invocation — a brief inspirational message to guide lawmakers through their deliberations for the day. Out of respect for the diversity in the Senate Chamber, the Senate Secretary’s Office asks that these invocations are non-secular and non-political. To sign up to serve as an Honorary Student Page or to deliver the Opening Invocation, contact Alex Ferguson at (207) 287-1540 or Alex.Ferguson@legislature.maine.gov.
The Maine Medical Association coordinates the Medical Provider of the Day Program in the Maine State Legislature. Established in 1996, the Doctor of the Day Program is a unique opportunity for medical providers to observe the legislative process in action and interact with lawmakers. Sen. Pierce represents Senate District 25, which includes Falmouth, Cumberland, North Yarmouth, part of Yarmouth, Gray and Long Island.
