Sen. Rafferty celebrated for perfect voting record on reproductive rights
AUGUSTA — Sen. Joe Rafferty, D-Kennebunk, earned a perfect score from Planned Parenthood Maine Action Fund for votes to protect reproductive rights and improve access to fundamental health care. Sen. Rafferty is one of 20 senators to earn a perfect score for their 2025 voting record.
“I am proud to earn a 100 on the Planned Parenthood Legislative Scorecard. We had a successful session and were able to pass some very important legislation that protects the rights and health of Mainers,” said Sen. Rafferty. “I’m particularly glad we passed LD 143, which invests in Maine’s family planning health care infrastructure. This funding will improve access to important reproductive health care such as cancer screenings, STI screenings and treatment and birth control. Our work will help ensure that Mainers are starting families when they are ready, staying healthy and protecting our future generations. Access to preventative health care and reproductive freedom is something that I will continue to support in the legislative sessions to come.”
Planned Parenthood scored the votes of Maine legislators on 12 bills, including seven bills that would restrict access to abortion and reproductive care. This year, in the face of massive federal cuts, the Legislature invested $6 million in Maine’s family planning services network, which provides essential care for patients, including birth control, cancer screenings and testing and treatment of STIs, regardless of ability to pay. Sen. Rafferty also supported a new law that will protect prescribers of safe, effective medication abortion by allowing a provider to omit their name from prescription labels.
Sen. Rafferty has earned a perfect voting score from Planned Parenthood every year since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and eliminated the nationwide right to abortion.
