AUGUSTA – On Tuesday, April 1, Sen. Rotundo, D-Lewiston, hosted Special Olympics Bronze Medalist Ashley Stasulis of Lewiston and presented her with a legislative sentiment in recognition of her achievement in the Special Olympics Winter Games in Turin, Italy.

Stasulis represented Team USA in snowshoeing at the 2025 World Winter Games in March of this year. On March 13,she competed in the 200-meter race, placing third and earning the bronze medal. On March 14, she competed in the 100-meter relay and the 4×100-meter relay race, finishing in fourth and fifth place respectively.

“Ashley is a remarkable young woman who not only brought home an Olympic medal for the U.S. last month, but also plays an important role in our Lewiston community. When she’s not training or competing, Ashley works at John F. Murphy Homes, a local nonprofit that works to improve the lives of those with intellectual disabilities and Autism Spectrum Disorder. Lewiston could not be luckier to have her.”

Stasulis was the only snowshoe competitor from Maine out of 30 total competitors from the United States to compete at the international level.

Ashley has also competed in basketball, bocce, bowling, soccer and tennis in the Special Olympics.

A legislative sentiment represents a significant expression of the Maine Legislature in recognition of civic and public achievements.
