Sen. Stacy Brenner shares 2025 MDOT work plan for state bridge and road projects
AUGUSTA – Sen. Stacy Brenner, D-Scarborough, is pleased to announce the details of Maine’s three-year transportation infrastructure work plan, and what it means for Senate District 30. The plan is released annually with an outline of the Maine Department of Transportation’s strategy for road, bridge and other transportation upgrades and maintenance projects. It seeks to fulfill MDOT’s mission “to support economic opportunity and quality of life by responsibly providing [its] customers the safest and most reliable transportation system possible, given available resources.”
The three-year work plan makes a historic $4.8 billion investment in construction and maintenance of transportation infrastructure. It includes 2,716 individual work items for the calendar years 2025, 2026 and 2027. It represents smart and steady progress across transportation modes, and it benefits everyone who lives, works or does business in Maine.
“I’m thrilled to share these valuable investments in infrastructure to help support Senate District 30’s growth, development and general maintenance,” said Sen. Brenner. “This work plan will improve road safety and enhance our transportation to better serve families and businesses throughout the district.”
The following breakdown is the planned capital and maintenance work by MDOT for communities in Senate District 30 in 2025:
Bicycle/Bus/Pedestrian/Transit
- Gorham: Pedestrian crosswalk lighting improvements, located at the Main/School/South, Main/Water/Elm, and Main/New Portland Intersections (Sponsored by PACTS).
- Scarborough: Construct the Eastern Trail, beginning at Pleasant Hill Road and extending north 0.83 of a mile to Gary L. Maietta Way.
- Scarborough: Construct the Eastern Trail Bicycle and Pedestrian connection, beginning at Nonesuch River and extending east 0.72 of a mile to Pleasant Hill Road.
Bridge, Bridge Replacement
- Gorham: Make improvements on Great Falls #1 (Long) Bridge (#6210) over Presumpscot River, located 0.04 of a mile east of the Gorham town line.
- Gorham: Make improvements on Great Falls #2 Bridge (#1529) over Presumpscot River, located on the Gorham-Windham town line.
- Scarborough: Make improvements on Pleasant Avenue Crossing Bridge (#3911) over Band Railroad, located 0.09 of a mile north of Rigby Road.
- Scarborough: Make improvements on Spurwink Bridge (#2796) over Spurwink River, located 0.34 of a mile northwest of Spurwink Avenue.
Highway Paving, Highway Safety
- Gorham: Pave Route 114, beginning 0.04 of a mile north of Maine Street and extending north 1.60 of a mile (Sponsored by PACTS).
- Gorham: Pave Route 25, beginning 0.02 of a mile west of Academy Street and extending west 0.38 of a mile.
- Gorham: Pave the intersection of Route 111 and Day Road.
- Gorham: Replace a large culvert (#1095986), located 0.43 of a mile north of Route 25.
- Scarborough: Pave Route 114, beginning at Maple Avenue and extending north 0.48 of a mile to Ridgeway Road.
- Scarborough: Pave Route 1, beginning at 0.39 of a mile northeast of Harlow Street and extending northeast 1.20 miles and includes bridges (#3573 & #2240).
- Scarborough: Pave Route 9, beginning at Primrose Lane and extending northwest 0.73 of a mile, including bridge (#3712).
- Scarborough: Pave Broadturn Road, beginning at Route 22 and extending southeast 2.40 miles.
- Scarborough: Pave Spring Street, beginning 0.17 of a mile north of Mussey Road and extending north 0.27 of a mile (PACTS Sponsored).
- Scarborough: Pave Route 22, beginning at 0.05 of a mile east of the Westbrook town line and extending west 3.18 miles.
Planning and Research
- Gorham: Research for the Gorham Connector project; evaluate and document the active transportation and transit needs for future programming.
- Gorham: Conceptual design work for the transit routes in the Gorham-Westbrook-Portland Transit Study. This is administered by Greater Portland Metro in cooperation with MaineDOT and MTA.
Urban Highways
- Gorham: Make improvements on Route 114, beginning at Running Springs Road and extending south 0.21 of a mile to Morrill Avenue (Municipal Partnership Initiative Program, PACTS Sponsored).
- Gorham: Crack sealing throughout the city.
- Scarborough: Make improvements on Route 114, beginning at Maple Avenue and extending north 0.48 of a mile to Ridgeway Road (Part of the Municipal Partnership Initiative Program).
- Scarborough: Make improvements on Route 77, beginning at the Cape Elizabeth town line and extending south 1.41 miles to Pleasant Hill Road (Municipal Partnership Initiative Program, PACTS Sponsored).
- Scarborough: Make improvements on Saco Street, beginning at Gorham Road and extending north 0.67 of a mile to the Gorham Town Line (Sponsored by PACTS).
- Scarborough: Make improvements on Route 114, beginning 0.13 of a mile north of Ridgeway Road and extending north 0.71 of a mile.
- Scarborough: Make improvements on Route 114, beginning 0.62 of a mile northwest of Payne Road and extending northwest 2.44 miles.
Working Waterfront
- Scarborough: Allocating $183,000 for a grant program for wharves and piers to benefit Maine’s commercial fishing and aquaculture.
