AUGUSTA — On Wednesday, October 29, Senate Majority Leader Teresa S. Pierce, D-Falmouth, joined Gov. Janet Mills, families and students at the Maine Educational Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (also known as the Governor Baxter School for the Deaf) for a dedication ceremony for the new gateway at the school entrance. The gate will serve as a new, welcoming entrance to the campus, located on Mackworth Island in Falmouth. A time capsule was also sealed and placed nearby and will be opened in 35 years.

“I’m inspired by the love and passion the students at the Center have, not only for their studies, but their school and community,” said Sen. Pierce. “Today was a reminder that, together, we have a shared commitment to ensuring access to safe and inclusive spaces for all students to learn. I will continue to use my seat on the Legislature’s Education Committee to advocate for access to a quality education that meets the needs of students across Maine.”
