AUGUSTA — Sen. Eloise Vitelli, D-Arrowsic, received a perfect score from the Maine AFL-CIO’s 2021 Legislative Scorecard for her voting record to promote fair wages, safe work environments and support working families. Sen. Vitelli was one of 18 senators to earn a perfect score. The Maine AFL-CIO scored twelve initiatives considered by the 130th Maine Legislature.

“We owe working Mainers a debt of gratitude for everything they do for our state, especially during the pandemic,” said Sen. Vitelli. “We also owe them the right to a safe workplace and the ability to provide for their families. I’m honored to have received this distinction from an organization that represents so many working people, and I pledge to continue putting working Mainers first with my work in the Legislature.”

Sen. Vitelli sponsored one the AFL-CIO’s priority bills that improves Maine’s unemployment insurance program. The law makes a slew of changes to the system to increase efficiency, modernize systems, keep people connected to the workforce and support working families. Sen. Vitelli also cosponsored a measure from Senate President Troy Jackson, D-Allagash, to strengthen whistleblower protections so that employees are able to safely report wrongdoing in the workplace.

Founded in 1956, the Maine AFL-CIO is a state federation of more than 160 local labor unions, representing more than 40,000 Maine workers and retirees. The organization works to improve the lives and labor conditions of not just its members but all working people across the state.
