Sen. Vitelli earns high score from Maine AFL-CIO on voting record for working families
AUGUSTA — Sen. Eloise Vitelli, D-Arrowsic, has received a high score from the Maine AFL-CIO’s legislative scorecard for her support of working families during the second session of the 128th Legislature.
“I am proud of my record in Augusta supporting the working men and women of Maine,” said Sen. Vitelli. “In Sagadahoc County alone, union jobs at BIW provide a solid foundation for so many workers and their families to be economically secure and independent.”
Founded in 1956, the Maine AFL-CIO represents four active labor councils, more than 160 local labor unions and more than 40,000 workers and retirees here in Maine. The AFL-CIO advocates on behalf of workers from all different professions — shipbuilders, teachers, papermakers, truck drivers, nurses, letter carriers, firefighters and more.
Among the local unions affiliated with the AFL-CIO are the representatives of workers at BIW in Bath; Local S6, Local S7, the Bath Marine Draftsmen’s Association and the Independent Guards Association.
Sen. Vitelli received high marks from the AFL-CIO for her steadfast support of Maine workers, which includes supporting legislation to fund voter-approved Medicaid expansion, voting to fix Maine’s flawed unemployment system and fighting to ensure Mainers get the overtime pay they deserve. She also opposed multiple efforts to roll back the voter-approved minimum wage increase, which would have resulted in a serious pay cut for thousands of working Mainers.
Sen. Vitelli is serving her first term representing District 23in the Maine Senate, which includes Sagadahoc County and the town of Dresden in Lincoln County.
