Sen. Vitelli welcomes Bath high school student to the State House, presents legislative sentiment
AUGUSTA — On Thursday, Sen. Eloise Vitelli, D-Arrowsic, welcomed Aurora Guzzetti, a sophomore at Morse High School in Bath, to the State House and presented her with a legislative sentiment. Aurora was the 2023 State Champion in the Junior Division of the Lincoln Douglas Debate at the Maine Forensic Association Tournament. Aurora’s mother, Jean Guzzetti, accompanied her to the State House. Jean is the Register of Probate for Sagadahoc County.
“As we in the Senate know, debate – the ability to articulate and advocate for one’s position – is a critical skill,” said Sen. Vitelli. “As important as the substance of the debate are the values that the debaters adhere to. These values – honesty, compassion, fairness, responsibility and courage – are not just for the debate stage. They will help you on life’s stage, too.”
The Maine Forensic Association (MFA) oversees speech and debate tournaments throughout the state. MFA is open to all Maine high schools. The Maine State Championship was heled on Jan. 21 at Bangor High School.
A legislative sentiment acknowledges and recognizes academic, athletic, civic, professional or service-related accomplishments.
