Senate Democrats retake the majority in the Maine State Senate
AUGUSTA—On Tuesday, Senate Democrats picked up enough seats to secure the majority in the Maine State Senate for the 129th Legislative Session.
Senate Democratic Leader Troy Jackson of Allagash released the following statement:
“This past year Mainers from all walks of life stepped up to run for the Maine State Senate – small business owners, doctors, educators, parents and activists. They knocked on tens of thousands of doors, they’ve talked to their friends, families and neighbors and they’ve listened to folks regardless of party affiliation, voting history or background. They put in the time and effort to run for office because they believe in Maine people and our great state. They ran clean, honest and fair campaigns because they know that Maine is at its best when everyone can participate and get involved.”
“I’ve been proud of the work we’ve accomplished over the past two years but I know we can do better, especially now that we have the majority in the Senate. I look forward to working next session with Governor-elect Janet Mills and Speaker Sara Gideon to make it easier for folks to live, work and raise a family in Maine. At the end of the day, Maine people don’t care which party you identify with, they just want someone who is honest, believes in our state and vows to do what they say they’ll do. And you can be damn sure that is what we intend to do in the Maine State Senate.”
