Senator Hickman celebrated for perfect voting record on reproductive rights
AUGUSTA — Senator Craig Hickman, D-Winthrop, earned a perfect score from Planned Parenthood Maine Action Fund for votes to protect reproductive rights and improve access to fundamental health care. Sen. Hickman is one of 20 senators to earn a perfect score for their 2025 voting record.
“I am honored to have been recognized by this organization,” said Sen. Hickman. “Planned Parenthood has been a tireless advocate for reproductive freedom and primary health care for women and other vulnerable populations. Ensuring these rights remain untouched in Maine will always be one of my top priorities. As long as I am in office, I will continue to defend access to these vital — in some cases lifesaving — resources for people throughout the state of Maine.”
Planned Parenthood scored the votes of Maine legislators on 12 bills, including seven bills that would restrict access to abortion and reproductive care. This year, in the face of massive federal cuts, the Legislature invested $6 million in Maine’s family planning services network, which provides essential care for patients, including birth control, cancer screenings and testing and treatment of STIs, regardless of ability to pay. Sen. Hickman also supported a new law that will protect prescribers of safe, effective medication abortion by allowing a provider to omit their name from prescription labels.
Sen. Hickman was also recognized by Planned Parenthood for his voting record in 2022 — the year the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and eliminated the nationwide right to abortion.
