Senator Hill: You May Have Some Missing Money

Posted: February 10, 2012 | News Items, Senator Hill

AUGUSTA – Senator Dawn Hill is urging Maine residents to check the statewide database for unclaimed property.

Every year the Office of the State Treasurer releases its annual list of unclaimed property, which consists of money and other personal assets that are considered lost or abandoned when an owner cannot be located.

“Make sure to take the time to search the list and encourage your family, friends, and neighbors to check it out as well,” said Senator Hill. “A little extra money can go a long way and you may be surprised to be on the list.”

There is no fee charged to process an unclaimed property claim. Residents may go online to search for unclaimed property at www.maine.gov/unclaimed or call toll free at 1-888-283-2808.

Senator Hill also has a list for the senate district, including the communities of Eliot, Kittery, Ogunquit, South Berwick, and York. Call (207) 287-1515 for more information.

Hill added, “It is important that the public is aware of any unclaimed property.”

Senator Dawn Hill serves on the Appropriations and Financial Affairs Committee and represents Senate District 1, which includes the communities of Eliot, Kittery, Ogunquit, South Berwick, and York.
