State employees union praises lawmaker for commitment to working families

AUGUSTA – Senator Ed Mazurek of Rockland has received a 100% rating from the Maine State Employees Union for his support of working families during the 126th Legislature.

“Organized labor is the backbone of a strong workforce and a growing middle class and I am proud to support Maine workers,” said Senator Mazurek. “I am amazed by the Maine state employees’ vigorous work ethic, sense of professionalism, and dedication to public service.”

Senator Mazurek is one of 19 Democratic senators to receive a perfect score from the union, which represents more than 15,000 public and private sector workers throughout Maine.

During the 2013 legislative session, Senator Mazurek supported the bipartisan, responsible budget crafted by the legislature, and voted to prevent a state shutdown by overriding the governor’s veto of the budget. Senator Mazurek also supported bills to raise the minimum wage and increase access to affordable health care and low-cost prescription drugs, and opposed harmful so-called “right-to-work” bills, which would have weakened collective bargaining rights for Maine workers.

The Legislature will reconvene in January 2014.
