Sens. Daughtry, Pierce host Yarmouth Reverend at the State House
AUGUSTA — Today, Sen. Mattie Daughtry, D-Brunswick, and Sen. Teresa S. Pierce, D-Falmouth, hosted the Rev. Amanda Gerken-Nelson of St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Yarmouth. Rev. Gerken-Nelson delivered the opening invocation before the Maine Senate.
“I appreciate the words and sentiments that Rev. Gerken-Nelson shared with all of us,” said Sen. Daughtry. “As the session days become longer and busier, the faith leaders from our communities really inspire us and remind of the importance of our work to serve Mainers.”
“I was happy to have Rev. Gerken-Nelson join us in the Senate chamber this morning,” said Sen. Pierce. “The Reverend delivered a moving opening invocation, and it was a great way to start a busy day of floor votes and committee work.”
Part of session days — when legislators are meeting in the Senate and House Chambers — includes the offering of a brief inspirational message to guide the lawmakers through their deliberations for the day. Out of respect for the diversity in the Senate Chamber, the Senate Secretary’s Office asks that these invocations be non-secular and non-political. To recommend someone from the community or express an interest in delivering the opening prayer, please reach out to Alex Ferguson at (207) 287-1540 or Alex.Ferguson@legislature.maine.gov.
