Statement from Aroostook County senators on funding for Loring

AUGUSTA — The Maine Legislature on Thursday enacted a bill — LD 1644, “An Act to Provide Funding to the Loring Development Authority of Maine for Implementation Grants” — that will appropriate $750,000 for the renovation of the airstrip at Loring International Airport, as well as other facilities at Air Force Base-turned-industrial park.

STATEMENT FROM SENATE DEMOCRATIC LEADER TROY JACKSON, OF ALLAGASH:

“For decades, Loring has been a pillar of Aroostook County’s economy, and this funding will help make sure it stays that way. Getting the airstrip up to federal standards will facilitate the development of new business at the Loring Commerce Center. That’s a win for Northern Maine.”

STATEMENT FROM SENATOR MIKE CARPENTER, D-HOULTON:

“The people of Aroostook County are eager to get to work and contribute to their state and its economy, but they need jobs to do it. This bond will create the conditions by which more businesses can open and expand at Loring. It was my honor to help pass this bill.”
