Today: State commission holds hearing on effects of tariffs on Maine
AUGUSTA — The Maine-Canadian Legislative Advisory Commission will hold a public hearing today to hear from members of the public, including state experts and industry leaders, on the effects of federal tariffs on Maine’s economy.
The hearing will begin at 10 a.m. and will be held in person in State House Room 127 (the Taxation Committee Room) with participation by Zoom and a Livestream also available.
“I’ve heard from lots of businesses in my district, including manufacturing companies and those in the forest products industry, that these tariffs have been devastating,” said the Commission’s Tariffs and Tourism Working Group lead member Sen. Mike Tipping, D-Orono. “I look forward to learning more details about what this has meant for our trade with Canada and the rest of the world and about ways we can act on the state level to bring costs down for Maine people and businesses.”
