York High School Student to Serve on Legislative Youth Council
AUGUSTA – On the first day of legislative business for the Second Regular Session, the Maine Legislature unanimously confirmed the appointment of York High School Freshman Stephen Carr to serve as a member of the Legislative Youth Advisory Council.
Senator Dawn Hill (D – York County) nominated Carr for the position and the President of the Maine Senate, Kevin Raye (R – Washington County) made the appointment. All 35 Senators present supported the selection.
The Maine Legislative Youth Advisory Council (LYAC) was the first youth council in the nation to have both an advisory relationship with a state legislature and the statutory authority to submit legislation. Established in 2002, the LYAC is a 20-member advisory council tasked with advising the Legislature on policy issues of importance to Maine youth.

Senator Dawn Hill is the Ranking Democratic Senator of the Appropriations and Financial Affairs Committee. She represents Senate District 1, which includes the communities of Eliot, Kittery, Ogunquit, South Berwick, and York.
