AUGUSTA – The public is invited to attend two community forums to learn more about the governor’s proposed state budget and its impact on Maine residents, municipalities, businesses, and organizations.

Senator David Miramant of Camden is hosting the events in an effort to hear from constituents within the region.

“It is important that legislators hear from the people we are elected to represent,” said Senator Miramant, who represents all of the municipalities of Knox County except the Town of Washington. “The proposed budget shifts many of Maine’s taxes, and the people deserve to know how this will affect them if the plan moves forward as the Governor prefers.”

Governor Paul LePage submitted his state budget proposal at the beginning of the year and the Legislature’s Appropriations and Financial Affairs Committee has been reviewing the $6.5 billion document. After a thorough process of months of public hearings, public testimony, and work sessions, the budget-writing committee will provide its recommendation to the full Legislature for consideration.

The forums will be held at the Rockland Town Office, 270 Pleasant Street, on Thursday, March 19, 2015 from 6 p.m to 8 p.m. and the Union Town Office, 567 Common Road, on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

“I look forward to hearing from residents and their thoughts on the proposed budget,” said Miramant. “I welcome any feedback.”

Additional community forums may be held in the coming months at other locations within the Senate District.
