SACO – Senate Democratic Leader Barry Hobbins recently spent an evening with local residents at a listening session at Thornton Academy in Saco. The public event, which was hosted by Senator Hobbins, is part of an on-going effort to bring matters from the State House in Augusta down home to the residents of Senate District 5.

During the two hour session, many of the concerns expressed by participants focused on the fixing the economy, creating jobs, spending responsibly, and holding government accountable. Senator Hobbins appreciated the feedback and reassured that most in the Maine Legislature hold the same priorities. Representative Linda Valentino also attended and spoke about the upcoming legislative session.

Among the group, some in the audience came from backgrounds as a small businesses owner, a single parent working three jobs, a former educator, and a freshman at Thornton Academy with an interest in public service.

“It is important to hear from people who come from all backgrounds,” said Senator Hobbins. “No matter the individual difference, they all spoke with a common voice for a stronger economy and better quality of life.”

Hobbins added, “I will continue to work for the people and businesses in our region and our state.”
