AUGUSTA – Sen. Justin Chenette, D-York, is pleased to announce the details of Maine’s three-year transportation infrastructure work plan, and what it means for District 31. The plan is released annually with an outline of the Maine Department of Transportation’s strategy for road, bridge and other transportation upgrades and maintenance projects.

“Our transportation infrastructure needs to keep up with the population growth of our area,” said Sen. Chenette. “Improvements are being made to ease the headaches and increase the safety of local residents that live here year round.”

According to the MDOT, the work plan covers approximately $2.59 billion worth of construction and maintenance, which includes 2,051 work items. The three-year plan estimates MDOT will invest in 171 miles of highway construction and rehabilitation; 858 miles of pavement preservation; 1,800 miles of light capital paving for roads and highways; 170 safety and spot improvements; and 148 bridge projects.

The following breakdown is the planned capital and maintenance work for some communities in Senate District 31 in 2020:

Bridge and Structural Maintenance

● Repair and grout center granite pier on Chases Mill Bridge over Little Ossipee River in Limington, located .3 miles south of Route 25

Highway Paving/Rehabilitation

● Beginning at Route 35 and extending southeast 0.92 miles to Route 4A in Hollis

Highway Safety and Spot Improvements

● Old Orchard Beach, located at the intersection of Route 98 and Ross Road

● Beginning at Lincoln Street and extending northeast .37 miles to Bradley Street, PACTS Sponsored in Saco

Planning 

● Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Section 5339 grants for the Capital Assistance Biddeford-Saco-Old Orchard Beach Transit Committee, discretionary funding for new trolleys will apply to FTA directly
