Sen. Haskell Speaks at Criminal Justice Training Conference
AUGUSTA – Democratic Sen. Anne Haskell of Portland spoke at the 31st Annual Correctional Training and Performance Conference held for the first time in Maine.
“It is an honor for the state of Maine to host this national conference and to take part in discussions on the future direction of our corrections system,” said Senator Anne Haskell. “Maine is proud of its progressive record on corrections reform. I am sure the Department of Corrections is looking forward to sharing their experiences with others from around the country.”
Sen. Haskell has been a leader on issues of juvenile justice during her legislative career. She has sponsored several pieces of legislation and co-chaired the state Juvenile Justice Implementation Council. That group was established to implement the recommendations of the Juvenile Justice Task Force, which was chaired by Chief Justice of Maine’s Supreme Judicial Court, Leigh Saufley; Dean of the Maine School of Law, Peter Pitegoff; and former First Lady Karen Baldacci.
The International Association of Correctional Training Personnel (IACTP) is an international professional association of trainers, training administrators, and educators representing all aspects of the field of adult and juvenile justice.
This year’s conference is being hosted by the Maine Department of Corrections and will be held at the Clarion Hotel in Portland from September 27 to 30. The event will bring together several training directors, correctional trainers, and others interested in effective correctional practices from across the United States.
