Sen. Denise Tepler welcomes Mt. Ararat Middle School students to the Maine Senate

AUGUSTA — On Tuesday, February 4, Sen. Denise Tepler, D-Topsham, welcomed Mt. Ararat Middle School students to the Senate Chamber. The sixth graders served as Honorary Student Pages in the Maine Senate.

“I’m honored to host students from Mt. Ararat Middle School here in the Senate chamber,” said Sen. Tepler. “It was particularly wonderful to welcome students from the school where all my children attended. I hope that by seeing the legislative process up close, these sixth graders see the value of staying engaged in our community and will one day return to the State House to testify on legislation, or even as elected officials.”

On session days, the Senate Secretary’s Office manages the Honorary Student Page Program in the Maine State Senate. Open to students in third through twelfth grade, Honorary Student Pages perform various duties such as delivering messages; distributing documents within the Senate Chamber; interacting with State Senators; and – most importantly – taking part in a real world, legislative learning experience.
