Sen. Cameron Reny shares 2025 MDOT work plan for state bridge and road projects

AUGUSTA – Sen. Cameron Reny, D-Bristol, is pleased to announce the details of Maine’s three-year transportation infrastructure work plan and what it means for Senate District 13. The plan is released annually with an outline of the Maine Department of Transportation’s strategy for road, bridge, and other transportation upgrades and maintenance projects.

According to the Maine DOT, the three-year work plan makes a historic $4.8 billion investment in construction and maintenance of transportation infrastructure across the state. It includes 2,716 individual work items for the calendar years 2025, 2026 and 2027.

In 2025, the Maine DOT will undertake numerous projects to improve transportation in Senate District 13, such as distributing grants to strengthen wharves and piers on our working waterfront, and replacing aged bridges and culverts.

The following breakdown is the planned capital and maintenance work by MDOT for communities in Senate District 13 in 2025:           

Airport Operations

  • Wiscasset: Replace hangar door and make building improvements, as well as general maintenance of the runway/taxiway at the Wiscasset Regional Airport.
  • Wiscasset: Reconstruct the apron/tarmac at the Wiscasset Regional Airport.

Bicycle/Pedestrian

  • Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor: Construct an on-road trail/sidewalk beginning 0.08 of a mile south of Hackmatack Road and extending north 0.63 of a mile to the traffic circle, then continuing north 0.14 of a mile on Back River Road.

Bridge Replacements and Maintenance

  • Newcastle: Replace Meadow Brook Bridge over Deer Meadow Brook, located 4.09 miles west of Bunker Hill Road.
  • Washington: Replace Farrar Bridge over Jackson Stream, located on Route 105 0.51 of a mile west of Vanner Road.
  • Whitefield: Make improvements to Partridge Bridge over the Sheepscot River, located 0.31 of a mile west of Route 218.
  • Windsor: Make improvements to Cookson Bridge over the West Branch Sheepscot River, located 0.33 northwest of the Whitefield town line.

Drainage Maintenance

  • Waldoboro: Replace a large culvert located on the Waldoboro-Friendship town line.
  • Waldoboro: Replace a large culvert located 0.51 of a mile northwest of Mayo Road
  • Washington: Make drainage improvements on Route 105, beginning 0.11 of a mile east of Waldoboro Road and extending north 0.15 of a mile
  • Waldoboro: Replace culverts on Route 220 in Waldoboro, located 0.35 of a mile and 6.29 miles northwest of the intersection of Mayo Road, respectively.
  • Waldoboro: Replace the culvert on Route 220, located 0.67 of a mile south of Feylers Corner.
  • Whitefield: Replace the culvert on Cooper Road, located 0.45 of a mile north of Hunts Meadow Road.
  • Whitefield: Ditch and replace culverts on Route 194 in Whitefield beginning at the Pittston-Whitefield town line and extending 5.18 miles southeast to the Whitefield-Alna town line.
  • Alna, Newcastle: Ditch and replace culverts on Route 194 in Alna and Newcastle beginning at the Whitefield-Alna town line and extending 5.11 miles southeast to the intersection of Route 215.
  • Alna, Wiscasset: Ditch and replace culverts on West Alna Road in Wiscasset and Alna beginning at the intersection of Route 218 in Wiscasset and extending 6.89 miles north to the intersection of Route 218 in Alna.
  • Washington: Ditch and replace culverts on Route 206 in Washington beginning at the intersection of Route 17 and extending 1.57 miles north to the intersection of Route 105.
  • Waldoboro: Ditch on Manktown Road in Waldoboro beginning at the intersection of Route 1 and extending 3.03 miles north to the intersection of Route 235.

Highway Construction/Rehabilitation and Safety Improvements

  • Waldoboro: Perform roadside improvements at the intersection of Jefferson Street and Route 220.

Highway Paving

  • Jefferson, Somerville, Union, Washington: Resurface Route 17 beginning at the Washington town line and extending west 4.81 miles, and beginning at Shepard Hill Road and extending northwest 3.47 miles.

Policy, Planning, and Research

  • Damariscotta: Conduct a study to evaluate traffic safety, bicycle/pedestrian access and economic development opportunities through the Planning Partnership Initiative on Route 1B, beginning at Church Street and extending north 1.36 miles to Route 1.
  • Newcastle: Plan a study of Route 1B/Route 215 as part of the Village Partnership Initiative, beginning at the Route 1 interchange and extending east 0.31 of a mile, beginning at Route 1B and extending north 0.25 of a mile to Steward Street and beginning at Route 215 and extending east 0.19 of a mile

Traffic Safety Improvements

  • Damariscotta: Construct a roundabout at the intersection of Route 1 and Belvedere Road.
  • Edgecomb: Perform safety improvements at the intersection of Route 1, Cochran Road and Cross Road.
  • Damariscotta, Wiscasset: Make ADA safety improvements on rural highways.

Working Waterfront

  • South Bristol, Boothbay Harbor and Bristol: Distribute grant funding for wharves and piers that provide a significant and compelling benefit to Maine’s commercial fishing and aquaculture industries.
  • Southport: Perform engineering design work for a nature-based solution that protects infrastructure and reconnects coastal wetland floodplain to tidal exchange.
