Sen. Tepler celebrates Community Action Grants awarded to Arrowsic, Bath and Bowdoinham

The funds awarded will support storm recovery and resilience projects to protect Maine people, businesses and infrastructure.

AUGUSTA — Sen. Denise Tepler, D-Topsham, is pleased to announce that three municipalities in Senate District 24 are recipients of a Community Action Grant award from the Community Resilience Partnership. The Partnership, administered by the Maine Office of Community Affairs, helps Maine communities transition to clean energy and become more resilient to climate effects, including severe storms and flooding.

  • The Town of Arrowsic will receive:
    • $66,382 for energy efficiency improvements to the Arrowsic Municipal Building.
  • The City of Bath will receive:
    • $80,000 to establish the City of Bath Stormwater Utility.
    • $80,000 for wetland enhancement and engineering projects, including roadway design upgrades, to protect against flooding.
  • The Town of Bowdoinham will receive:
    • $57,797 to implement an open space plan and enlist assistance with the revision of the Town’s land use ordinances.

“I’m very happy to see our community receive these funds,” said Sen. Tepler. “Much of the infrastructure throughout the Midcoast needs upgrades to better prepare for intense and unpredictable weather patterns brought on by climate change. Sagadahoc County is no different. I’m looking forward to seeing the improvements made possible by these grants.”

The most recent round of grant funding, awarded earlier this month, is the second set this year and seventh overall. It will support projects in 72 communities with $4.7 million in total awards. A complete list of awardees is available through the Maine Office of Community Affairs. The previous round, which was announced in May of this year, supported projects in 76 Maine communities with over $5 million awarded. A complete list of those awardees is available here.

Funding for the grants comes from several sources, including measures passed by the Maine Legislature:

  • The Supplemental Budget that was passed by the Legislature in 2024 to increase community resilience and preparedness in the wake of the December 2023 and January 2024 storms;
  • Funds from the biennial budget authorized by the Legislature in 2023; and
  • A federal grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Sen. Tepler is serving her first term in the Maine State Senate. She represents Senate District 24, which includes all of Sagadahoc County and the Town of Dresden. She serves as Senate Chair of the Environment and Natural Resources Committee and the Marine Resources Committee.
