ANNE HASKELL SWORN IN FOR SECOND TERM IN MAINE SENATE
AUGUSTA—Last Wednesday, Democratic Senator Anne Haskell of Portland was sworn in to office for her second term in the Maine State Senate for the 127th Legislative session. She will be representing Senate District 28, which includes part of Portland and part of Westbrook.
“I am looking forward to beginning another term, representing the great people of Portland and Westbrook,” said Senator Haskell. “We have some real challenges ahead of us, but I am confident that we can work together and accomplish a great deal over the next two years.”
In the 126th Legislature, Senator Haskell served as Assistant Majority Leader, chaired the Taxation Committee, and served on the Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Committee. While a member of the Senate, Haskell sponsored a wide range of legislation including bills to make it harder for “patent trolls” to harass and extort money from Maine businesses, and to protect loons and other wildlife from lead.
She served six terms in the Maine House, three representing Gorham, and three representing Portland. She served on the Labor, and Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committees, which she chaired during the 124th Legislature.
Now back in the house she grew up in, on Higgins Street in Portland, Haskell remains active in her community and currently serves as a member of the Deering Center Neighborhood Association, and the Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Gorham Savings Bank. Haskell lives with her husband, Lou, and enjoys visiting their summer camp, spending time with their grandchildren, and participating in an active lifestyle.
Wednesday, December 3, 2014 marked the official start of the 127th Maine State Legislature however, the first day of the Regular Session is expected to begin on Wednesday, January 7, 2015.
January 2 has been set as the cloture date for new bill ideas. Under Legislative rules, all new bill ideas must be submitted prior to that date.
