Jackson named to Fish River Rural Health board

AUGUSTA — Senate Democratic Leader Troy Jackson, of Allagash, has been appointed to Fish River Rural Health (FRRH) Board of Directors. FRRH is a nonprofit, federally qualified health center (FQHC) that has served the residents of St. John Valley with quality, affordable health care for almost thirty years.

“Too many Mainers struggle to afford health care whether it’s the rising cost of prescription drugs or high copays,” said Sen. Jackson. “It shouldn’t be this way. I’m honored to join this truly incredible organization that looks out for the health and well-being of our neighbors in the St. John Valley regardless of cost.”

In the Legislature, Sen. Jackson has been a strong advocate for improving access to quality, affordable health care. Last week, lawmakers overwhelmingly passed his bill to lower the cost of prescription medicine by increasing the availability of generic drugs.

Since 1996, FQHCs have provided comprehensive health care services to chronically underserved populations of all ages and all income brackets with the goal of improving the health and well-being of communities. In Maine, there are 18 community health centers that deliver health care to 130 sites across the state, serving more than 800,000 Maine people.

Fish River Rural Health has offices in Eagle Lake, Fort Kent and Madawaska.
