Maine Senate Democrats #StandWithPP
PORTLAND —Democratic Sen. Cathy Breen of Falmouth, who attended the #StandWithPP Speak Out Rally this morning in Monument Square, has released the following statement:
“There is no greater partner in women’s health than Planned Parenthood, yet we continue to see coordinated, baseless attacks against this important health care provider,” Breen said. “As a small number of extremists in Congress seek to defund this organization, they jeopardize the health and family planning options of millions of Americans in rural and underserved areas – including more than 10,000 Mainers. As we prepare for the coming legislative session, we must guard against this attack on women’s health to keep it from coming to Maine. I am proud to stand with Planned Parenthood.”
Sen. Anne Haskell, a Portland Democrat, also released the following statement of support for Planned Parenthood:
“Planned Parenthood is a pillar of the health care infrastructure in our state,” Haskell said. “Its easily accessible health centers provide cancer screenings, birth control, STD prevention and screening, pap tests, health education and counseling. That comprehensive level of care is why one in five women will turn to Planned Parenthood at some time in their lives. In Maine, more than half of Planned Parenthood’s patients receive free or reduced-cost care. There is simply no other health organization like Planned Parenthood, and I am proud to support the work that they do.”
