CAPE ELIZABETH — On Monday, April 7, Sen. Anne Carney, D-Cape Elizabeth presented a legislative sentiment to Debra Lane in honor of her upcoming retirement following 39 years of service to the Town of Cape Elizabeth. Mrs. Lane currently serves as Assistant Town Manager after spending most of her career as the Town Clerk.

“Debbie Lane has run everything from elections to vehicle registration in Cape Elizabeth since I moved to town nearly 40 years ago and she has administered every election I’ve run in until last year,” said Sen. Carney. “Her selfless service to the people of our community over so many years is much appreciated. I wish her well in her retirement, and I know the Town remains in good hands with Clerk Angela Frawley and the rest of the team that Debbie has helped to build.”

Mrs. Lane grew up in Cape Elizabeth and returned home in 1986 to serve as Town Clerk. She received a degree in Public Administration from the University of Maine at Orono and began her career with the Town of Farmingdale. Cape Elizabeth began succession planning two years ago in anticipation of Mrs. Lane’s future retirement with the appointment of Angela Frawley as Town Clerk and Melissa Newsome as Deputy Town Clerk.

Sen. Carney represents Maine Senate District 29, which includes South Portland, Cape Elizabeth and part of Scarborough.
