Sen. Anne Carney welcomes National Senior Games medalists to the State House
AUGUSTA — On Tuesday, March 18, Sen. Anne Carney, D-Cape Elizabeth, welcomed the Maine medalists from the 2023 National Senior Games to the State House. The medalists and their guests were recognized in the Senate Chamber as part of Maine Senior Games’s programming for National Senior Games Week.
“As an athletic Mainer who has lots of enthusiasm but no ribbons or trophies myself, I am excited to celebrate these winners during National Senior Games Week,” said Sen. Carney. “These athletes come from all over Maine and represented our state well at the National Senior Games in 2023. I look forward to the medals they will bring home and the memories they will create when many of them go to Des Moines this summer to compete in the 2025 National Senior Games.”
The Maine Senior Games began almost 40 years ago and are open to adults aged 45 and up. Their mission is to get Mainers moving and provide opportunities for active, social connection as people get older. The Maine Senior Games are held every year in Maine from Bangor to Saco and include individual and team sport opportunities. Events include swimming, basketball, archery, candlepin bowling and more.
The 2023 National Senior Games were held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and the 2025 National Senior Games will be held in Des Moines, Iowa. National Senior Games Week runs from March 17-23, 2025, and begins the countdown to the 2025 National Senior Games this summer. More than 100 Mainers are expected to compete in these games against over 11,000 other adults from across the country.
