Sen. Bailey earns high marks for pro-worker voting record

AUGUSTA — Sen. Donna Bailey, D-Saco, earned high marks from the Maine State Employees Association (MSEA) for her votes to support state workers.

“Our state employees and workers have continued to do good, important, necessary and vital work during this long, hard year and a half of the pandemic,” said Sen. Bailey. “I’ll always stand up for our state workers because they have immeasurable value and our state depends on them. I’m also deeply grateful for the services and work they provide to our community and all of Maine.”

Sen. Bailey has a long history of supporting Maine workers. In 2020, then-Rep. Bailey cosponsored LD 1214, a resolve to conduct a comprehensive study of the compensation system for state employees. This year, Sen. Bailey cosponsored LD 711, a law that allows for police officers to return to participation in the Maine Public Employees Retirement System, which Gov. Janet Mills signed into law. Sen. Bailey intends to keep fighting for state employees in her role on the Appropriation and Financial Affairs and Government Oversight committees.

MSEA scored votes on six bills, including the Back to Basics Budget and the bipartisan biennial state budget. As a member of the Appropriations and Financial Affairs Committee, Sen. Bailey made sure that state workers were not forgotten. For example, the Back to Basics budget ensured the continuity of state services by avoiding a state shutdown. Likewise, Sen. Bailey helped negotiate the bipartisan biennial state budget, which the MSEA union endorsed.

MSEA represents 13,000 public workers. For more information about the votes scored by MSEA, visit www.mseaseiu.org
