AUGUSTA — Sen. Cameron Reny, D-Bristol, is pleased to announce her reappointment to the Maine Climate Council’s Coastal and Marine Working Group. She was first appointed as a legislative member of this bipartisan working group last session, and she was reappointed by Senate President Mattie Daughtry, D-Brunswick, on April 1.

“Our coastal communities and marine industries have been adapting to changes on Maine’s coast for centuries,” said Sen. Reny. “I’m proud to serve on this Working Group to ensure that our fishermen, boatyards, homes, and towns up and down the coast are prepared for stronger storms and changing weather. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”

The Coastal and Marine Working Group’s role is to evaluate and advise upon short- and long-term mitigation strategies to reduce gross and net greenhouse gas emissions originating from coastal and marine sectors. The working group also evaluates short- and long-term resilience strategies against climate change.

The Coastal and Marine Working Group is one of six working groups under the Maine Climate Council, which was established in 2019 by Governor Janet Mills to address the impacts of climate change, build resiliency against those impacts, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The Council is made up of scientists, industry leaders and bipartisan local and state officials.

The Council releases an updated four-year plan for responding to climate change every four years. In November 2024, the Maine Climate Council released its second plan titled “Maine Won’t Wait.”

Sen. Reny represents Senate District 13, which includes most of Lincoln County and the towns of Washington and Windsor.
