Sen. Chip Curry appointed to multistate housing committee
AUGUSTA — Senate President Mattie Daughtry, D-Brunswick, has appointed Sen. Chip Curry, D-Belfast, to serve on the Council of State Governments (CSG) Eastern Regional Conference Housing Committee, a bipartisan, multistate panel focused on addressing housing availability and affordability across the Northeast.
The CSG East Housing Committee brings together lawmakers from 11 Northeastern states, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and three Eastern Canadian provinces to share policy solutions and innovative approaches to expanding housing supply and lowering costs.
Sen. Curry serves as Chair of the Maine Legislature’s Housing and Economic Development Committee and has led efforts in recent years to modernize zoning, support affordable housing development and strengthen the state’s ability to finance workforce housing.
“Housing affordability is not just a Maine issue — it’s a regional challenge that communities across the Northeast are grappling with,” said Sen. Curry. “This committee creates an opportunity to learn from other states, share what’s working here in Maine and continue advancing practical solutions that help working families, seniors and young people find a place to call home.”
The CSG East Housing Committee has hosted regional housing policy summits and meets annually during the CSG East Annual Meeting. Sen. Curry’s appointment is for a two-year term covering the 2025–2026 session.
The CSG Eastern Regional Conference is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that serves state policymakers throughout the Northeast by fostering collaboration and sharing best practices on pressing public policy issues.
Sen. Curry is serving his third term in the Maine Senate, representing all of Waldo County. He serves as the Senate Chair of the Housing and Economic Development Committee and sits on the Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee.
