AUGUSTA — On Thursday, October 10, the Maine State Senate voted on the confirmation of the appointment of Beth Ahearn of Freeport to the Commission on Governmental Ethics and Election Practices.

“Today, I was very happy to vote to confirm my constituent – and longtime friend – Beth Ahearn to the Commission on Governmental Ethics and Election Practices,” said Sen. Daughtry. “In her previous roles, Beth has been a staple at the State House for almost 20 years, and I am excited that she will continue to serve our community and the entire state in this new capacity.”

Here is a brief summary of Ahearn’s career:

  • Maine Conservation Alliance, Director of Government Affairs
  • Moose Ridge Associations, Lobbyist
  • District Court, Guardian Ad Litem
  • Maine Audubon, Staff Attorney
  • Androscoggin and Cumberland County, Assistant District Attorney

Last month, the Legislature’s Veterans and Legal Affairs Committee conducted a confirmation hearing for Ahearn, where she received a bipartisan 8-3-1 vote in support of her confirmation.

The Maine Commission on Governmental Ethics and Election Practices is an independent state agency that administers Maine’s campaign finance laws, the Maine Clean Election Act, and the lobbyist disclosure law. It also issues advisory opinions and conducts investigations regarding legislative ethics.

The Commission consists of five members jointly appointed by the Governor and Legislative Leaders for three-year terms. The Commission is bipartisan, and no more than two members may be enrolled in the same political party.
