Sen. Daughtry sworn into Maine Senate

AUGUSTA — On Wednesday, Sen. Mattie Daughtry, D-Brunswick, was sworn into the Maine Senate. Sen. Daughtry was elected to her first term in the Senate in November.

Hon. Andrew M. Mead, Acting Chief Justice of the Maine Supreme Court, administered the oath of office to Sen. Daughtry and 31 of her Senate colleagues, all of whom have been elected to serve two-year terms. She represents the good people of Senate District 24, which includes Bailey Island, Brunswick, Freeport, Harpswell, North Yarmouth, Orr’s Island, Pownal, South Freeport and South Harpswell.

“I’m so honored to have been chosen by voted to represent them in the Maine Senate,” said Sen. Daughtry. “Our neighbors, friends, small business owners and working families are counting on us to see them through the COVID-19 crisis. I’m eager to hit the ground running, and look forward to working alongside my new colleagues in the Senate.”

Sen. Daughtry, a lifelong Brunswick resident, graduated from Brunswick High School and Smith College. Sen. Daughtry co-owns and brews at Moderation Brewing Company, in Brunswick. She also runs her own local photography and video company. During her time in the Maine House, Sen. Daughtry championed policies that made a difference to her hometown, region, and the entire state. 

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the swearing-in ceremony was held at the Augusta Civic Center to allow for greater physical distancing. A live stream of the event was made available to the general public, and can be viewed online at http://legislature.maine.gov/senate/

Of the 34 members of the Maine Senate, there are 21 Democrats and 13 Republicans. Thirteen are women and 21 are men. There are 10 new members: Five have recently served in the House of Representatives and the other five have no previous legislative experience. Twenty-four members are incumbents.
