AUGUSTA — Sen. Susan Deschambault, D-Biddeford, has been appointed by the Senate President to the Legislature’s Joint Standing Committee on State and Local Government. The appointment makes her the Senate Democrats’ leading advocate for good government at every level.

The committee has jurisdiction over state contracts and fiscal procedures; state government organization; oversight of state officials, state employees and property; administrative procedures; boards and commissions; notaries public; capitol area planning; county and regional government; county budget process; the Maine Legislature; municipal and local government; and public services.

“I’m honored by the trust of my colleagues to serve on the State and Local Government Committee,” said Sen. Deschambault. “As a former state employee, Biddeford city councilor and planning board member, and now as a state senator, the importance of good government at all levels is clear to me. That starts with the rules and systems in place to keep government ticking along in service of the people. I’m excited to roll up my sleeves and join my colleagues on the committee in doing the people’s work.”
