Sen. Deschambault shares MDOT work plan for state bridge and road projects
AUGUSTA – Sen. Susan Deschambault, D-Biddeford, is pleased to share the details of Maine’s three-year transportation infrastructure work plan, and what it means for Alfred, Arundel, Biddeford, Dayton, Kennebunkport and Lyman. The plan is released annually with an outline of the Maine Department of Transportation’s strategy for road, bridge and other transportation upgrades and maintenance projects.
“We have a lot of projects planned for our community this year,” said Sen. Deschambault. “I was pleased that MDOT’s three-year work plan includes road construction, bridge repairs, improved intersections, and transit for all six towns within my District. A big thank you to all of the MDOT workers that make this work possible.”
According to the MDOT, the work plan covers approximately $2.71 billion worth of construction and maintenance, which includes 2,180 work items. The three-year plan estimates MDOT will invest in 100 miles of highway construction and rehabilitation; 893 miles of pavement preservation; 2,175 miles of light capital paving for roads and highways; 222 safety and spot improvements; and 166 bridge projects.
The following breakdown is the planned capital and maintenance work for the communities in Senate District 32 in 2021:
Light Capital Paving:
- In Alfred, light capital paving on Kennebunk Road beginning at Route 111 on Kennebunk Road and extending northwest 0.28 of a mile to Route 202.
- In Biddeford, light capital paving on Precourt Street beginning on Route 1 and extending southeast 0.32 of a mile to Landry Street, sponsored by the Portland Area Comprehensive Transportation System (PACTS)
- In Biddeford, light capital paving on Route 111 beginning at Biddeford Gateway Center and extending west 0.41 of a mile.
- In Biddeford, light capital paving on Route 111E beginning 0.14 of a mile north of Andrews Road and extending east 0.43 of a mile.
Maintenance:
- In Alfred, repairing wearing surface, applying epoxy, and sand treatment, repairing one post and one bridge rail on Stevens Mills Bridge on Jordan Springs Road, located 210 feet north of Riverside Drive.
- In Alfred, mill and fill wearing surface on Goodwins Bridge Road over the Middle Branch Mousam River in Sanford, located 0.12 of a mile north of Drake Lane.
- In Biddeford, mill and fill on Route 9 beginning at Marblehead Lane and extending north 0.85 of a mile to Decary Road, sponsored by PACTS.
- In Biddeford, mill and fill on Alfred Street beginning at Pool Street and extending northeast 0.13 of a mile to Main Street, PACTS sponsored Municipal Partnership Initiative (MPI).
- In Biddeford, mill and fill on Landry Street beginning at Precourt Street and extending east 0.17 of a mile to Hill Street, PACTS sponsored MPI.
Improvements:
- In Alfred and Lyman, highway improvements on Route 111 beginning 0.08 of a mile east of Graves Road and extending west 0.96 of a mile.
- In Alfred and Lyman, ultra-thin bonded wearing course work on Route 202 beginning 0.09 of a mile north of Saco Road and extending north 9.37 miles.
- In Alfred and Lyman, highway improvements on Route 111 beginning at Route 35 and extending east 1 mile to Thompson Road.
- In Biddeford, intersection improvements with signal on Route 9 located at the intersections of Main Street, Water Street, Hill Road, and Pepperell Mill Campus entrance. Mill and fill beginning at Hill Street and extending east 0.13 of a mile to Hill Street, sponsored by PACTS.
- In Lyman, highway improvements on Route 111 beginning at Route 35 and extending west 0.86 of a mile.
Transit:
- In Biddeford, transit operation assistance for Federal Transit Administration for statewide non-urbanized transit.
- In Biddeford, operating assistance for the Biddeford Downtown Circulator Project.
- In Biddeford, transit operation assistance for Federal Transit Administration for non-urbanized transit.
- In Biddeford, transit capital equipment purchase for Portland-Area Transit Agencies, Federal Transit Administration Bus and Bus Facilities for urbanized area transit, Fiscal Year 2019.
Policy, Planning and Research:
- In Biddeford, study to evaluate transportation alternatives to improve connectivity between I-95 via Exit 32 South Street and downtown Biddeford in order to relieve congestion along Route 111 and to support economic development.
- In Biddeford, statewide planning for the Planning Partnership Initiative Program. Evaluation of the new section of the Eastern Trail, including a safe way for bicyclists and pedestrians to cross the Saco River between Biddeford and Saco.
