AUGUSTA — Sen. Craig Hickman, D-Winthrop, earned a perfect score from the Maine State Employees Association (MSEA) for his votes to support state workers and was recognized as a 2021 Legislative Champion for his leadership as Senate Chair of the Labor and Housing Committee.

“I am honored to have received a perfect score from MSEA,” said Sen. Hickman. “I have the great pleasure of representing a large number of state employees, who have dedicated their lives to the people of this state. I’ve seen their unparalleled commitment to this state firsthand. Throughout my career, I have always voted in support of measures to improve the lives of Maine workers, and I will continue to do so.”

Sen. Craig Hickman

Sen. Hickman has a long history of supporting Maine workers and state employees. He built on this record this session as chair of the Labor and Housing Committee and took the lead on defeating anti-worker legislation that sought to diminish the voices of Maine workers.

This session, Sen. Hickman voted in favor of a bill to fund collective bargaining agreements for executive branch employees. This bill made $75 million available to fund raises for executive branch employees in the current two-year state budget. He also supported the Back to Basics Budget to ensure state government kept its doors open and state workers’ pay wasn’t interrupted by political games, and he supported the bipartisan biennial state budget, which included measures to support state employees.

MSEA scored votes on six bills, including the Back to Basics Budget and the bipartisan biennial state budget. MSEA represents 13,000 public workers. For more information about the votes scored by MSEA, visit www.mseaseiu.org
