AUGUSTA — Sen. Henry Ingwersen, D-Arundel, has been appointed by Senate President Mattie Daughtry, D-Brunswick, to serve as Senate chair of the Legislature’s Joint Standing Committee on Health and Human Services for the 132nd Maine State Legislature.
The Health and Human Services Committee covers issues relating to the Department of Health and Human Services, MaineCare, child care, mental health services, public health and disease control, prescription drugs, nursing facilities, residential care, health care workers and more.
“I’m honored to be appointed as Senate chair of the Health and Human Services Committee by President Daughtry,” said Sen. Ingwersen. “Maine’s health care system and social services are the backbone of our communities. I look forward to working with my committee members on the continuing challenges of providing quality, accessible and affordable health care to all Mainers.”
Sen. Ingwersen will also serve on the Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry Committee, a committee that deals with a variety of areas including the Department of Agriculture, food safety and inspection, the dairy industry, pesticide regulations and the Land for Maine’s Future Program.
“I’m honored to serve on the Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry Committee,” said Sen. Ingwersen. “I can’t wait to hit the ground running and continue the good work we were able to do last session to support Maine’s dairy farmers and to promote sustainable agricultural practices.”
Lawmakers are assigned to committees by the presiding officers based on their interests, experience and professional background. Joint standing committees are composed of three senators and ten representatives.
